St. Mellion Church

St. Mellion church is in the centre of the village, just off the main road and was built in the reign of Edward 1. It was dedicated by the Bishop of Exeter in 1259. The patron saint, St. Mellanus was a Breton who became a Bishop of Rennes in the 6th century. He was buried at Rennes and his feast day is celebrated on November 6th. The church contains memorials and inscriptions to the Coryton family who lived in Pentillie Castle in nearby Pillaton.
